Hi all,

I have recently gotten a 1990 225 Sundowner cuddy with a 5.8L OMC/Cobra drive with Holley 4bbl carb and points.

Been doing some work on the boat and it only has 290 hours on it.

Right now with 15x17 prop it will do 32mph at WOT which seems to be about 4100-4400 rpm.

My uncle who use to own boat said he THOUGHT he remembered it doing 42mph. I don't think so.

Is 32 mph about right for this boat with this motor????? Anyone else have this combination?

Thanks,

Jeff

sounds slow to me. i have a 20.6 sundowner that cruises at 32 with a top speed of 45 with a 175 johnson. with a kicker, gear, and 3 guys. i also have a 24' 76 fiberform cuddy with twin 165 mercs that does 40 mph.

I have the same boat with the 5.7 OMC Cobra and run a Michigan Match 15X17 3 blade aluminum prop. At wot this boat gives me over 43 MPH and as high as 48 fully trimmed out. The 5.8 is 235 HP but should still top out at least 39-42 mph properly trimmed. Going to upgrade to a solas HR Titan 14 3/4 X 17 to see if I can get 50 mph out of her.
