Re: Help with decision on 1994 Crownline BR

Welcome to iBoats . . .

I would look for a hard floor and the engine to run great. You could hire a surveyor to inspect the boat, if you are not sure of the things to check. Transoms, bulkhead and stringers are always good things to check on older boats. A water trial tends to prove things out on boats.

NADAguides has the value at about $6,700 . . . so maybe $8,000 with the trailer. Asking price is $9,500; what were you planning on offering?

I was considering 8500.00 that sounded like a fair price to me.?.? I could start at 8k and go from there.

Re: Help with decision on 1994 Crownline BR

I had a similiar style Wellcraft for a few years...

$9500 too much. That boat is $7000 max in Mid-Ohio. Mine was in excellent shape and I put it up for $6700 and sold it in a few hours. Just to give you a $ range.

VP motor and DP drive are good stuff.

All about condition for that year boat.

Check the trailer for good condition brakes, tires, bearings. Those things add up quickly. Easy to spend $500-$800 on trailer parts.

Just some experience.... You'll find you need to stay at 2800-3000 RPM to keep on plane and that RPM will put you at cruising 22-26MPH. FOR ME, that was a little fast in the waters I was in -- Lake Erie, 2-4 foot waves, and bumpy ride. I wanted to plane/cruise at 16-18MPH that was more enjoyable. Trim tabs are the best way to plane at slower speeds. That boat doesn't have any tabs, so that could be a $200-$1500 add on.

So the $$ trap for that boat is paying $9000, then $600 for trailer repairs, $600 for trim tabs, and then $1000 for other maintenance items. So you'll be @ $11000 for that boat, and the real market is $7000.

Just my 2cents. Maybe all those costs don't happen and you get a reasonable price and just go boating.
