I just purchased my first boat. Actually i traded a 200k mile 97 BMW for this all original 1983 Celebrity 176V. I think it was a pretty good trade!! It only has 368 hours on it and sounded and rode very nice. It definitely shows its age and has one soft spot in the floor and has aftermarket jump seats on the side of the engine cover but the 305 ci. 898 Mercruiser with an alpha 1 drive ran great and hull seemed near perfect. I cant wait to start enjoying the water. This summer i plan on just using it as is and hopefully doing things like interior repair and gel coat refinishing over the winter. Let me know what you think of the boat. Heck it even came with all the original covers. The mooring covers, and the storage cover. Attached three are from when picked it up. Links below are after a quick cleaning and finding the old mooring covers buried under seats, life vests, and some anchors in the front. The water covers are actually stamped from June of 1983 hahaha.

She looks pretty good for a '83. She was probably well cared for. I would suggest you check out that soft spot in the floor before you spend time and $ sprucing her up. Where in the floor is the soft spot? Their could be other soft spots under the floor, like rotten stringers or transom.

the floor is soft just in the stern on the port side right in front of the jump seat and a bit next to the engine. The starboard side is ok and i couldn't find to may other signs of rot easily visible. I def want to take the floor up this winter to see how everything looks, but am nervous to dill holes in the transom and check for soft wood.

My boat had a soft spot right where yours is. I tore up that side of the floor and did find a few feet of rotten stringers. Luckily that is all the rot there was.
If you only drill about 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep holes as low as you can on the inside of the transom you will be ok. Is there any movement of the transom if you stand on the outdrive?
