I'm considering a J14 with a 30 HP outboard for two adults and 2 children for fishing or crabbing. Can anyone that has one reply with how many people you typically have on board?

Re: J14 Too Small?

I had J14 woth a F25 Yamaha fine for 1 to 2 people other than that it was way too small. I eventually moved up to a Southern Skimmer, much better boat.

Re: J14 Too Small?

Hi, I have a 16 foot carolina skiff. It is the standard series which is a lot roomier than the J-series. It has a wider beam and higher gunwales etc. My boat is rated for 6 people and that is laughable. If I have one other person fishing in my 16 it feels cramped. Two others, forget it. I have never been in a J14 but I have seen the bare hulls and they are tiny for what you say your needs are. I hope this helps. Good Luck
