Hi all. love the Forum. I have a 2000 Bayliner 1600 with a 50 horsepower Mercury on it. It's a two stroke. I have been looking at 90 horsepower Mercury and a 75 horsepower Mercury. The 75 horsepower weighs 300 pounds and the 90 weighs 400 pounds. The 50 weighs about200. My boat will do about 28 miles an hour with two adults in it. Once I add two more people, it gets a little sluggish getting out of the water. I have been considering upgrading to either a 75 or a 90, and would like some recommendations. I can get there for about $2000. They are both late 90's mercury two strokes.

of course I'm all for more horsepower, but really I would like to be a little bit more efficient while skiing / tubing and would like to have a calmer cruising speed at 25 mph without ringing the motors neck the whole way. Having a 100 pounds less in the engine might help a bit so I lean towards the 75 but I wanted to get other peoples thoughts. I have adjusted my prop from a 11 P 28 12 P & a 13 p with good results, but it all depends upon how many people I have In the boat.

What would you all recommend for this 2000 grand budget?

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

It appears that the maximum HP rating for the boat is 75, so that's what I would go with.
