This is my first boat and this is the first boat forum i found so looks like a match made in heaven. Found lots of useful info. The boat has a 120 hp Mercruiser. Which i already have started work on, impeller and solenoid for the trim.

nice boat. looks like a good one. What are the issues with the engine, impeller and trim?

Re: My new to me 1979 Baretta

The guy i purchased it from said it was ready to go and that he had it out a few times this year, I took it straight to the lake, put it in started it, trimed down and went for a ride, shortly into it it started getting hot, Found that the impeller was in bad shape, the tube that carries the water was disfigured and not working correctly. The trim wouldn't pick up, i disconnected the lines and after getting it home tested with a pice of wire and figured out that the solenoid was bad.
Engine runs a little rough, gonna do a little tune up, plugs, check points, and maybe carb rebuild. It runs good just not as smooth as i believe it should. Seats in the bow were said to be redone with original vinyl, they were but with regular pieces of plywood, so i'll have to redo them this winter.
theres a few issues with the blower not working and i think its due to the wire at the switch being loose or not just right. I came to this conclusion because the radio and fish finder are wired into the anchor light switch and they flicker off occasionally, and the switch light goes off when that occurs. The speedo doesn't work. No idea on that yet.
I'm awaiting the parts my friend is bringing in tonight from 2 hours away. so hopefully after install, i won't be running hot and the trim will work great! Will post an update! Thanks for the comment.

Got the trim fixed! new impeller and various parts with that! Got out for about 2 hours and it got hot around 200 degrees so let it cool off and took a good swim! got it back put the muffs on it and couldn't get it past 160. strange! whats a normal operating temperature? This boat is being built in memory of my mom who introduced me to the lake life and passed away a few weeks prior to her 50th bday this year.

Re: My new to me 1979 Baretta

Am now trying to figure out how much flow should be coming out of the lower unit and such when running. I have a small stream but nothing really that impressive, I'm also trying to figure out information on what spark plugs and thermostat to use. Anyone have an idea? Thanks for all the useful information
