I just bought this boat used, it has the 454 in it. It's in great shape, starts right up, and runs like a charm. But the performance is quite lacking; something has to be wrong. With me and my gf (275 lbs between the two of us), and a 1/2 tank of fuel, I'm seeing 4K-4.2K RPMS and MAYBE 50MPH. Is this all this boat is capable of or is there a problem? Acceleration also is a disappointment; it takes forever to plane. Possibly something wrong with the prop? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Yeah, something is wrong. My Baja Force 216 with a 5.7 Mercruiser and an alpha 1 drive went 65mph verified with a GPS. That was with 3/4 tank of gas and the tank held 63 gallons.

Yeah something's wrong... I just got a 232 Islander with the 454 (not the mag) and I'm seeing 63-65 when the tank is low. Right out of the hole too, hardly any time to plain out. What pitch prop do you have? I have a 23 stainless on right now.
