Could anyone here give me an idea of the top speed of a 140 ? Would it be around 40 mph? I know most didn't have speedometers ,but figured someone might have checked it with a gps.

i'd think a little less than 40. my 165hp gets up to 41-43mph, gps, depending on the day.
i run a 19p aluminum prop.

I have my eye on a couple nineteens right now fairly close. One is a 140 hp and the other is a 165 hp. Haven't seen either in person yet as I have been trying to sell an old boat to make room for a Nineteen. I have an old nineteen brochure that states they would run over 40 mph with the standard engine. I guess that would be the 120 hp? If a 120 would push one that fast,a 165 would be around 50??

here is a thread i started awhile ago wanting to know speed differences. maybe that'll help. someone with a 120 responded in it.

all i can say is what i've observed with mine. max speed i ever got out of mine is 44mph @ 4400 rpm. which is 100 rpm faster that wot spec. i've never seen close to 50 out of mine. when ever i do a speed run my 1st statement holds true, always, assuming all is well with my boat. my speeds are gps and as far as i'm concerned, a fact about the speed (41-43mph) of my nineteen. original drive (1.65:1) and engine.
the varaitons in my speed i think are about air temp, humidity. when both are high, i go slower. also when i do the speed run. 1st run of the day or wait till end of day after the engine is really warmed (heat saturated) up. again, slower speeds when heat saturated.

Ziggy, I think your right on this. A 120 is capable of approx 37mph, a 140, 40mph, a 165,44mph. I know for a fact, conditions play a huge part in how fast any boat will go. My funliner will vary 3-4 mph depending on wind ,waves and current. I don't know if either of these boats I'm looking at are waterlogged or not,but I'd be willing to bet they prolly both are to some degree. One has a blue hull and top and the other has a standard white hull with blue top. Still debating that.:)
