Re: Would you buy an uncovered nineteen?

Got scared off the classic boats for a bit, but the wait may have been worth it. Going to look at this one tomorrow:

1979 AristoCraft Nineteen Boat

It has been in the same family since new and the only issue is rough steering. Anyone got any ideas on that? He says it is certainly usable as is, but sometimes the steering has a "hitch" in it, where the steering isn't linear (it hesitates and then goes). I've seen issues like these helped considerably with synthetic fluid (which would be cheap), but it could also be expensive...

at $1400 you could just put in all new steering. Nice boat.

You can pick up a complete rack and pinion steering system for around $150.00.
Your description of the problem is unusual. They usually get stiff or get a lot of play in them. Either way, I wouldn't run it until I new what was going on.
