I headed over to a local lake the other evening to fish and I noticed an old 16 foot bass boat sitting with just the front half on a harbor freight trailer with straps holding it in. Upon further review I noticed they had drug the keel at the stern on the concrete and the boat was destroyed. the next day I headed over there again and the owner was there. I had to inquire how it got this way. Well here it is: they were trailering the boat after fishing. Backed he trailer down the ramp , successfully got the boat on the correct boat trailer and started up the ramp. trailer came loose from the ball ( my guess is they were using the wrong size ball) snapped the one flimsy safety chain and rolled back in the water. Boat floated but the trailer didn't. After several unsuccessful attempts to locate the trailer they gave up, went to harbor freight got a trailer and straps. Drug the boat half on the trailer up the ramp. Destroyed the boat. Ran into him again later , he showed back up to remove his motor and trolling motor, Stated the police had called about getting his boat removed. He was trying to get what was left of the destroyed boat home using the trailer. Well the hull is now destroyed anyway, so I suggested a chainsaw to cut it in half taking 2 trips. he later sent me pics. he did just that. the boat trailer is somewhere in the water. I offered to go get if for a small fee but he is uninterested and states he will retrieve it when he can.

pics of the boat cut in half. Wish I hadn't deleted the original pic of the boat strapped down to the harbor freight trailer.

Look on the bright side, at least he can store his boat in the shed instead of the garage :D

You know what they say "never under estimate the ingenuity of an idiot" :D

Obviously he really didn't like the boat to begin with. All that damage didn't happen at that moment. It really wasn't taken car of very well from the looks of it. JMHO!

Hope he didn't hurt the chain saw.

Story doesn't sound quite right. If the boat is on the trailer or being loaded, seems to me the winch strap would be connected. When it rolled back in the water the two would still be connected.

I am assuming the bow strap was a well maintained as the boat and when it rolled back into the water it snapped with the boat pulling up (floating) and the trailer pulling down (sinking) or maybe these guys just never hooked it. Sound right or not, its what happened.
