Basement Remodel....Pool Table??

Last Fall I finished remodeling my basement; turning it into a rec room/bar area. The other day I was at a neighbor's house and were playing pool. I forgot how much fun it was....played it a lot in college (probably should have been in class). So now I am thinking of possibly getting a table and putting one downstairs. Does it look like there is room?

Here are a couple of before pictures.....the area beyond the door was completely unfinished before I started. Took me about 7 months working on it nights and weekends.

Here are some after pictures that....to give an idea of the space I am working with. The built in cabinet in one of the pictures is a built in dartboard that would still have to be playable if I get the table....

I was thinking that if I got rid of the eliptical and that smaller couch I could put a table on that side.....but then maybe the path to the patio doors would be too busy?

The card table might have to go . . . but it looks fairly spacious.

Break out the tape measure and see how much room you have. Remember to allow plenty of room around the table, although I'm sure you already know that. I recently got rid of my pool table. First couple of months it got played alot then it just turned into an obstacle to walk around. LOL. Nice looking basement. Looks like you did a great job with your remodel. Good luck!

Measure it out then get the exact measurements of the table your going to use. From there i would use painters tape and tape the outline of the outside perimeter of the table on the floor. From there go get a cue and walk the outside perim with it and see if you have any "blockspots". I have played several basement boxes where there are more "blockspots" than free and it takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Also ask your neighbor how often he actually uses it.. I have seen several basement boxes covered in dust after years of neglect.

all my 2cents..

and yes great looking basement.. all but that Green n Gold rag ya got ;)

I think you have a perfect spot there if it's wide enough. It's always nice to have windows to look out when shooting pool. Maybe you could put a few tall chairs with the cue rests in the corners. I've had a pool table in my basement bar for over 7 years. We use it alot, especially around the holidays. Or maybe you could swap the card table to that space and put the pool table there. Looks good man, I like your floor!

You'll need at least 6' of clearance on all sides to prevent bumping the walls.

Recommend foosball instead. Pool table requires too much room and is not used enough to justify the lose of a really good looking space.

Looks like plenty of room. Ours is a bit tight but we use it a lot.

If you could figure out how much you were going to use it, the decision would be easier. I think you have enough room , but it would dominate the area. I think coastalrichard is right - at least 6'.

I'm currently finishing my basement and will be thrilled if it comes out half as nice as yours!

Looking back @ the pics., I can see a shuffle board and a foosball taking up less space than a pooltable.

After most of the comments, I think the only place a pool table could go would be where the poker table is now.....then I would have to move that to the area in front of the sliding doors, and get rid of the couch and eliptical on that side.

Believe it or not, that poker table has been around since the early 60's. My grandpa built it long ago, and my dad had it in his basement when I was growing up. About 8 months ago I got it and re-felted, re-staind, and fixed it up a bit.

Also forgot that a few months back I added a pub table and chairs in between the two "rooms" The more and more I look at it the more I think that a pool table might just be too much.

There is a Wii down there....and an XBOX360. No kids yet :)

I keep waiting for that DLP bulb to go so I can justify a new TV to the wife. 65" Panasonic........would look sweet down there.
