  • the best way to cut exhaust pipe?

can I just hacksaw through exhaust pipe? I have seen the chain wrenches that is made for cutting through exhaust pipe but do not have that tool and I need to make 2 cuts through exhaust pipe under my car. I seem to remember as a kid having a hard time cutting exhaust pipe with a hacksaw. Its been manny years since I have tried it. Thanks for any help you guys can give me!!!

Sawsall, cut off wheel or a new hacksaw blade and patience.

I have used a sawsall with great results.

I was hoping to use a hack saw because my budget is low and was wondering if it can be done? I know you said new blade and patience but how hard is it really? Thanks for your replies!!

Accessibility and clearance are the the main problem.Unless you remove it from the vehicle. Then hacksaw is the cheapest.

Hacksaw is cheapest. Take your time and try to keep your cut square. Hand held grinder with a cut off wheel or a sawzall is easiest.

Ayuh,... There's Nothing especially Tough, or Hard about exhaust pipe...

It's more like workin' on an I/O,...
It's relatively Easy, Once you can get Too it...

hack saw will work given enough time and arm. i've been there, laying under the car the concrete gives nice leverage. :P)

sawzall if its under the car,
but a grizzly horizontal bandsaw in the garage.
                    Go forth and buy tools.

                      Sawzall...

I bought a cheap $20 Harbor Freight sawzall just for cutting an exhaust pipe. Since then have used it for many things, it was a good purchase.

Ask your friends if any of them have the sawsall. You will be glad you did. You can cut it with a hack saw, but like everyone else has said it's a question of clearance and accessibility.

The Harbor freight sawzall would be my next choice.

My auto store loaned me a chain wrench to cut the seat post in my boat. You 'buy' the tool and they refund your money when you return it.
