  • Are all sources of FREE Win 10 gone?

My SIL has an Enterprise copy of Win 10 on his laptop. My daughter worked for Texas Tech University and was allowed complimentary access. She quit in May to come home with new baby. My SIL is now getting a message that his Win 10 Enterprise will go away in 20 days. Due to my daughter's decision to stay home with new baby, they are in an extra slim budget situation.

T'would be nice if there was a work around considering they gave it away for free for so long.

They gave it away for free for over a year and a bit longer for students and other institutions, but those days are long gone now, the program is not that expensive in the whole scope of things and there are plenty of copies new in the box and the wrapper floating around on ebay and other online sellers, but I have not seen the free service for a while now.

Depending on what they use their laptop for (email, Facebook, Searches, banking, music playing, etc......) Linux would be a good alternative https://www.tecmint.com/best-alterna...windows-users/

There's only a few things that you cannot do (like run Turbotax and a few other windows only programs.)

It's also free and will never ask for money. It might be a good alternative until they are able to purchase a new computer.

I use it for everything I listed above(since the 90's) ....except with the actual Turbotax software..... and I have read someplace that it may work with Turbotax online.

WINE can allow WIN programs to run in Linux. It was free the last time I looked.

Right you are! I have actually used WINE https://www.winehq.org/ to run windows applications. I have not tried it with Turbotax however (we can only hope we'll not need it when the "Postage Card" tax plan is finalized!!)

I think there's also a paid version (Crossover Office? ) Both have really come a long way.

Son in Law was pressing the October 27 deadline for ,his Win 10 Enterprise Laptop to revert to a pumpkin. All he wanted to do was to end up at square one. He ended up picking off a fresh copy of Win 10 Pro, off ebay, for $55 shipped.
