Bought a galvanized gate latch at HD. Made in China. Came with six galvanized screws. Three of the six screws had the Phillips slots so gummed up with zinc that I couldn't get a bit to drive them.

Probably should have returned it just to make a point, but, didn't want to wait in the return line for 20 minutes. Instead, went to local hardware store and bought six SS screws for $1.25, which will stand up better anyways. Chinese technology - bah!.

Your stainless screws probably came over in the same ISO container as the latch

Don't blame the Chinese. They will supply whatever quality level that the American retailer is willing to pay for.

remember, prior to buying from China, we were buying from Tiawan, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, or any of the other 3rd world countries because the average consumer doesnt care about quality or value, they only concern themselves with price. because of this, we have low cost, low quality crap

We still do. China is not the only supplier of sub-par products...... My RAM was built in Mexico probably with Chinese steel......

Better say it now, we're walking the political line let's not cross it......

Certain Chinese manufacturing is becoming very good. Similar to how Japan was early on. Now you wouldn't think twice buying something made in japan. That wasn't the case in the 60's and early 70's

Poor quality is mainly a myth. Their quality level is directly rated to what the consumer is willing to pay. Unfortunately in most cases there is no other option.
