Message Notification?

Seems that I no longer get a little red number, in the 'message box', when people respond to posts that I have participated in. Even though it has been a PITA to have to delete the notification after I look at it, it was a good way to know that there were responses in a forum that I might not regularly visit.

Since I just liked your post as a test, you should have a red notification now at the top right of the page???

I have never ever seen a liked thread yet on here and was actually wondering why even have it? Seems if that option was removed from the software package, it would make the software a little easier to maintain. :noidea:

Ok, I had a '1' indication in the little red box. When viewing it, it said that Fun Times and 2 others responded to message notification. I did not know that someone had to 'like' a post before a notification would show up. With the number of 'message' notifications that I used to get, I thought all that had to happen to receive a message notification was that someone new commented on a post that you had participated in.

OK Boomy - I'm not "liking", but just replying. Did you get a notification? This is shortly after ^^^^ your reply. What is ticked in your Profile Notifications tab, mine is below? I don't have many selections to keep my email from burning up. The Discussions section is supposed to control when you get notified and Email Notifications is how you get the the notification.

There are only three of them not checked, GA. They are the 'subscribe when posting', 'confirms a subscribe request' and 'likes your post'. I did have a notification that you were included in. There were 5 people in total. BUT this is a thread that I started. I thought I would get a notification of new comments in any thread that I had participated in but not started.

I just figured that that first one is probably the one that does what I thought it did all along. I just went back and checked it.

We need the old posted to indicator. It's supposed to be in the next update, but it was also supposed to be in the one Admin just did, too.

I think when you check the "Subscribe when posting" for automatic subscriptions, you will get them.. If it works the way it should, you should get notified for any thread started by you and any you reply to. So this reply should cause a notification, Boom. Fingers and toes crossed.

The notifications are not real time. The software does a check roughly once an hour and sends pending notifications. Otherwise it would be spinning its wheels sending notifications out and slow the forums down significantly.

Well, FaceBook does it. Why can't this high priced, often modified system do it??:noidea:

....and yes, the old way was better.

Now, that's an unfair comparison.

Well then, how about the free (to user/developers) BoardHost forums. They are simple and basic but show a dot on any forum you have participated in and if someone else comments on the post, it moves to the top of the list and is displayed in bold (assuming you are signed in).

Here is an example. Unless you are a member of a forum that uses the boardhost software, you will not see what I am talking about but you can still see the format. They also have PMs.

Actually, inspite of their simplicity and economy, they do not have 'real time' notifications. You have to refresh to see them.
