how did you track that???

It is really not hard to track draws in an electrical system, you just know to know how to use a meter and start isolating circuits by pulling fuses, then when you find the circuit, track down what is on that particular circuit and isolate it.

MT nailed it. Find the circuit that has the draw. Put your tester on and start disconnecting all the items in that circuit. Note the meter after pulling each item. When the draw stops that item should be the culprit.

Sorry...no way! A battery is capable of discharging current way faster than an alternator could charge it. Plates are not going to short because of that.

I have to agree with a battery being able to charge or discharge faster than a alternator but the alternator stays at the higher current for a longer period of time.
