Let's not forget on this special day those that have gone before us, sacrificing their lives for our freedom

[h=1]In Flanders Fields[/h]
combined-poppies-800.jpg

by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

My personal thanks to all who have served and are currently serving. My dad was Navy WWII. He never talked about the war to any of us and when he passed we found a Navy Cross, 2 Purple Hearts, Philippines Service Medal and a POW medal. We never knew.

11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Off to the cenotaph for the ceremony and laying of the wreaths, then to the legion for some beers with the boys.

To all those who enjoy freedom in these great countries...a very respectful and heartfeft Remembrance Day (Canada) and Veteran's Day (U.S).
This is the Canadian War Memorial erected in France to commemorate and remember all those who died serving in both WW1 and WW2....it is a very inspiring monument to all that have visited it. Canadian War Memorial 3.jpg

Even if she wasn't in the service she still out ranks you. Ask her she will tell you

My wife was a 1 LT when we met and I was an Army Captain. I don't think I ever got a salute from her.

images (25).jpg I did not learn much about what my Dad did in WW11 until late in his life. For anyone that knows anything about WW11 they have all heard about Audi Murphy. My Dad was in the same outfit. When I showed a picture of Audi Murphy to my 30 year old son and girlfriend who is a seasoned school teacher she asked first if the picture was one of "Patton" or maybe a picture of my Dad she never met..Neither one could remember ever hearing about Murphy or what he did....a pity. I told both of them that Audi Murphy was "the dang most decorated war hero of WORLD WAR 11, THATS WHO HE WAS".

Have them watch To Hell And Back the next time it is on. They will learn a little bit about him.
