After an interesting finish to events at the 2nd Contender round race at Charlotte, we move to the final race in the round. Oh my, Talladega! Home of the Big One, this year in more ways than one. With twelve drivers left in the Chase, four will drop out of the Championship Chase at the end of this race on Sunday. Dale Jr., Johnson, Kenseth and Keso are in danger of not advancing to the Eliminator round. Current seedings/points:
Standings

12Dale Earnhardt Jr.3031$5,468,974301117

Vegas odds are against Dale Jr., JJ and Keso making the cut. But when did oddsmakers start driving? If one of them wins, they advance to the next stage.

Here is the MRN event schedule for 'Dega. Nationwide is off until Texas in two weeks.

Look at all the red Foxes. I finally get to see a truck race on TV. No Fox Sucky 1 or 2. :D

NEWS
  • The big news is the fines and probation for Keselowski and Stewart for the post-race bumper car stuff. EDITORIAL COMMENT - WHAT BS! - END EDITORIALIZING Hamlin and Kenseth escaped punishment.
  • Michael Waltrip is still alive on Dancing With The Stars - No eliminations this week, unlike at the end of the GEICO 500.

Last weeks Golden Cup winner was QC. He came from behind after the the final restart and overtook aspeck to snatch the :first: right out of 'specks hand. Congrats, QC.
In the overall standings, 64osby is still on top over FlaCowboy. The lead is now 497 points.

Dare I say "insurmountable?"

This week has me totally freaked out. Look back at the Fantasy points from the last plate race. OMG!!

I am not sure what to do. Half the chasers could be swept up in one wreck and Landon Cassil could win. My little tip? Tommy Baldwin cars are always good at plate tracks. Now I've gone and done it...

In the three plate races this year, the FL winner only averaged 197 points. The other races, many have 300-350+ points for the winner, most are 250-300 points. Plate racing is hard on everyone, drivers and fantasy racers. Odds are at least one of the ten Chase races will be won by a non-Chaser. Danica or Terry Lebonte could win this week. Maybe Kyle Larson gets his first.

I wouldn't even mind a Danica win, but if she wins a plate race, they'll say "yeah, but she can only win with a plate." Just ask Mikey

I missed seeing the truck race and Cup qualifying today. The qualifying didn't go well for most of the Chasers. Gordon is dead last! Only three of them are starting in the top ten. Here are the Chaser starting positions by seed:

Brian Vickers has the pole.

To The Back
  • Kenseth - Engine change prior to the start of qualifying.
  • Keselowski - Alternator change

Maybe it's going to be one of those deals where they ride in the back all day until late in the race. The little I saw of trucks they were nose to tail....

I'm sure Keso will charge to the front or wreck trying. And The Twerp loves doing that too.

Logano and Harvick have nothing to lose. Could they play a factor in the outcome of the Chase if they decide to "go for it"?

L or H could try to help someone out. You know, that aero thing. They can't improve, they have their ticket punched to the next round, but they could influence who moves on.

Didn't Nascar Inc. have have few issues with the last race before the chase last year. Drivers dropping back, think there was a non flat tire, all trying to change the chase field. Gordon(?) was let in post race and below par points.

I was shocked looking at the qualifying results.

If they try something, they have to do better than Bowyer last year. Yeah, the 5 minute sessions were a little short today. The longest non-road course track in Nascar and it has the shortest total time allotted for qualifying, 20 minutes. Even Martinsville, at 0.526 miles, gets 30 minutes for the first session alone. The Nascar thinkers better start using their noggins when a single lap takes almost 50 seconds and it takes a couple of laps to get up to speed.

Here is what the Chasers need to do to advance:

Kyle Busch: 24th or better; 25th and at least one lap led; 26th and most laps led

Ryan Newman: 19th or better; 20th and at least one lap led; 21st and most laps led

Carl Edwards: 18th or better; 19th and at least one lap led; 20th and most laps led

Jeff Gordon: 16th or better; 17th and at least one lap led; 18th and most laps led

Denny Hamlin: 15th or better; 16th and at least one lap led; 17th and most laps led

Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. only control their own destiny by winning Sunday at Talladega.

It should be an interesting race today.

The Twerp sure has a messed up car. Stewart, Newman and quite a few others involved. I think the Dinger got into the rear of the 83 and spun him.

Spinning like fools coming in and leaving the pits. Yellow is out and the restart and last laps will be a mess.
