This week, Cup and N-Wide visit historic Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lake region. A road course with twisties and right turns. And the ringers come out too - Said and Piquet Jr are joining the regulars at the Glen. 43 entries for the race, so everybody is in and no one goes home. Only 5 races left for drivers to qualify for the Chase - Time is getting short. Standings are below.

Everything kicks off on Friday with practices for both series and qualifying on Saturday morning, both on ESPN2. The Zippo 250 is scheduled to start at 2:15 Saturday , while the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen is at 1:19 on Sunday.

News

The National Guard is dropping Nascar and Indy Car sponsorship at the end of the season. Raises an interesting question - Hendricks says the NG deal runs through the 2015 season. Who is right, who is wrong? :noidea:

Gibbs is not appealing the penalties to Hamlin and the team for the firewall plates at Indy.

Goodyear is talking about putting air pressure sensors in the Cup car tires. After a rash of tires failing in the last few races and crew chiefs seem to ignore the recommended minimum pressure on a regular basis, Goodyear is looking at saving face and negative publicity.

In Fantasy Live, sam60 got the :first: for Pocono. Overall, 64osby pushed his lead over FlaCowboy to 320 points.

Get your pick changes in and good luck to all!

My money is on Taz.

He won two in a row, '11 and '12. Could be a good bet.

I meant to mention the rumor a couple of weeks ago that he might be leaving Nascar and going back to OZ to run the V8 Supercar Series for Penske.

I don't think it's rumor. Penske starting a team there and clearly talking to Ambrose about being his guy.

#18-Busch 128.660

Danica changed engines between practices, to the back. Then she cut tire, hit the wall and has to go the the back-up car. Is that a double to the back?

Isn't making right turns outside their skill set?

Smoke kills a kid Saturday night .... Apparently trying to teach him a lesson after the kid gets out of his Sprint cat to give it to Tony. Smoke's head won't be in the race ... At least it shouldn't be.

Here's the vid, people can make up their own mind. They don't show the guy actually getting hit. These guys were still zipping around the track pretty good. It looks like the guy got way too close to Tony and couldn't get out of the way. I guess everyone will have to wait for the investigation. Everyone knows Tony had no intention of hitting him.

There's no way Tony should race today. He should pull himself, business or not..... NASCAR should pull him pending the investigation. JMO And I'm a Tony fan.....

No matter how you look at it, it's very sad.......

Wow, very sad.

Updated picks and heading on vacation for a week +. I might have to live with my WG picks for next week if phone / net is not working. ( Fla the passing lane might be open.)

Good luck to all and be safe, I'll report back in after a week at the lake.

Wimusky I am glad to see Tony pull himself from the race today. I am sure Tony did not hit the young man intentually however...as soon as the young man wrecked the caution lights came on. Tony has the Most Experience on the track and should not of been going as fast as he was...IMO of course.
The young man should not of walked onto the track like he did. I saw the full video with the young man getting hit. Hopefully Tony was not high on the track intentionally when he hit the young man...however...no one was inside of Tony when the young man was hit.
Hopefully Nascar will do a moment of silence before the race.

I just saw the whole vid too. Looks like the rear tire caught him...... As far as speed, it looked like he was maintaining the same speed as the other competitors, which they're supposed to do...... It's just ugly no matter how you look at it. This is long from over..... Prayers go out to the Ward family......

Don't forget guys these are winged sprints so while it looks like they are going pretty fast they are actually idling, these cars are direct drive, no clutch or gears except the rear end.

The speed they are going is consistent with any other winged sprint race I have seen during a caution flag.

The fact that these cars have limitations is why every driver knows you don't get out of winged sprints unless the car is on fire. The kid made a mistake and it cost him his life.

This in no way is Tony Stewarts fault, and I am no Tony Stewart fan.

Condolences to Kevins Family.

Thanks Lipp, I was just about to post that info too.... They idle pretty fast around the track during a caution, or before the race starts at every track they run...

Here's another article, last one that I'll post.....
http://www.motorsport.com/sprint/ne...iver-who-was-killed-but-know-the-whole-story/

Anyone see the pre race today? Just wondering how much it was discussed. I'm guessing not a lot since no one wants to speculate......
