We are only touching the beginning of speed upgrades.
These guys have figured out how to separate the colors of light... than use each color to send data. (ten colors for now)

"resulting in a transmission capacity of 1.6 terabits per second, the equivalent of transmitting eight Blu-RayTM DVDs every second."

You can transmit it down a fiber. Of course there is no switching equipment that can currently handle it unless you use 16 100Gbs channels and the somehow piece it all back together again

And there is the issue coax TTH VS FTTH it all boils down to the end equipment.
You should see what they can do with copper pairs now for areas where fiber will not be placed.

Nope, we have what Century link calls DSL and I can tell you, it is **** poor, I am looking at the new dish system, that advertises 4G plus speeds, which is about 5mps, but I love where I live, but sometimes, it is really frustrating.

Maybe Google can hook up all the hotels I stay at that offer "free cable" with speeds of 0.4 to 1.0 :(

I don't think there are ANY subsystems in consumer-grade computers that can handle data at that rate anyway.
