It begins - This week at Chicago is the 1st Cup playoff race after the contenders were finalized at Richmond. X-Men and Trucks finish their regular season at Chicago and lock in their playoff teams.

Chicago is the 1st of 3 elimination races in the first round, reducing to 12 drivers at the end of the 3rd race. Win and the playoff driver is locked into the next round, using points to fill the 2nd round. Here is the Cup field and all the playoff points carry through unless a driver is eliminated or at the finale at Homestead;

40 on the entry list, no qualifying drama about making the race. Weather looks good, except for race day on Sunday, possible delays. But the forecast is 4 days away.

From MRN, the weekend schedule, ARCA and Truck practices have begun at press time;

News and Notes
  • Silly Season and maybe not so Silly Season - Danica's time is up, at least for now. She is out at SHR and Aric Amirola is moving over to her seat next year and bringing Smithfield with him. This leaves Petty in a lurch with no driver and no major sponsor.
  • In other sponsor news, it has been previously reported that Target and Subway are dropping out. Target is dropping all motorsports and Subway dropped after Suarez was on an NBC fill in spot with NBC's Rut Wood handing out Dunkin' Donuts - Smart move!
  • Tony said about Danica - "She's one of the most fearless people I've ever met." Too bad she didn't win or make a better showing.
  • Furniture Row will shut down the #77 team next year if no sponsor is found.
  • The Twerp #18 team is swapping pit crews with the #19 team. The thought is that the #19 crew is stronger than the #18 and since Suarez isn't in the playoffs and The Twerp is still The Twerp. LOL
  • Penalties at Richmond were only for loose lugnuts. Just CC fines.
  • New rule - Because drivers just won't listen, ambulances are banned from playoff races. :rofl:
  • TV ratings - Richmond was 1.24/2.1M viewers. 2016-14 were 1.6/2.2M viewers, 1.8/3.1m viewers and 3.0/4.9M viewers.

Smokin! rode around the track with Larson and used the 40 points to take the iFL Richmond win and the slurpee11.png Congrats on your second win of the year, 'speck.

sportsman3 scooted around FloridaFishingNetwork to take the overall points lead.

Only 10 races left to take a win or 10 in iFL. Choose wisely, my friends.

Qualifying results for the Turtle race at Chicago - The Twerp on the pole, followed by Hamlin, Truex, Keso, Larson, Logano, Elliott, Dillon, Kenseth, Bowyer and Blaney.

Other news;
  • The charter for the Furniture Row #77 has been sold because no sponsorship was found.
  • Aric Almirola won't talk about 2018 and won't confirm or deny he is moving with Smithfield to SHR. Smithfield has said they dropped Petty due to lack of performance, so are they blaming Petty or Almirola? It seems the issue was with RPM.
  • Danica said she isn't retiring, just not driving for SHR any more. So who would sign her? Questions, questions.

Truck are warming up and are about to take the green flag.

And not even 3 laps in and the 1st caution. The Twerp isn't driving a truck tonight - Isn't that special!

Caution free Heat #1 and only 17 out of 40 on the lead lap. :doh:

Jones took the heat and no bonus points.

Maybe The Twerp should ask for his old crew back. 1st and loose wheel and then crew over the wall too soon when pitting to fix the loose wheel. Too bad! :D

On the restart for final heat, McMurray spins and brings out the 1st yellow after bumping Newman in the left rear.

Harvick took the lead back from Elliott before the caution.
