Volvo to build an Outboard motor?

I saw this press release the other day, and wondered if anyone had any familiarity with the "Seven" outboard company that Volvo Penta acquired? http://www.volvopenta.com/brand/en-...rity-owner-of-innovative-outboard-motor-.html

I always thought the old Volvo Penta Archimedes outboards were cool looking, and thought it would be interesting if Volvo had an outboard. Maybe soon they will!

The seven marine motor has more hp than any of the Volvo I/Os

They have a 557hp and a 627 hp outboard.

They are the GM LSA supercharged V8 sitting on top a ZF transmission and custom lower unit. The heat exchangers were something that I worked on back in 2010

wow, those sound like high performance, for sure. I'm sure high-dollar too! But maybe they'll expand the lineup to include some in lower ranges for more recreational boaters? Time will tell, I guess. But interesting for sure, that a stern drive manufacturer is looking to get into the Outboard game...

When you say heat exchangers, does that mean these are a closed cooling system rather than pulling in freshwater from the lake/sea?

Yes. There are actually 3 heat exchangers, one a power steering / oil / fuel, one engine supplied by Alfa Laval (Sarasota) and the intake charge air cooler that comes from GM

I checked out their website, and those are some impressive looking machines. The joystick control is pretty cool. With Volvo backing them, they will likely do some great things. I'm excited to see what their partnership yields.
