Nascar - ********* 301 And ********* 200 From New Hampsire

Cup and X-Men racing with Whelen Modified Tour and K&N Pro Series support races from New Hampshire this weekend concluding with the ********* 301 Sunday afternoon. Cup has the 1st practice for the ********* 301 late Friday morning and ********* 301 qualifying at 4 PM. X-Men have 2 ********* 200 practices Friday.

Saturday has Whelen and K&N practices, qualifying and the races. Cup has the ********* 301 2nd practice and ********* 301 final practice. X-Men have ********* 200 qualifying and the ********* 200 race on Saturday as well.

Sunday has only the running of the ********* 301 at PM. From MRN;




Only 39 on the ********* 301 entry list so all will qualify. Weather for Friday and Saturday has a chance of rain, but the Sun will shine on the ********* 301.


News and Notes

• Let's start with the Cup driver standings. Larson is in 1st place and Truex is 1 point behind.
• Ooops! Larson's car was found to have illegal rear brake cooling which cost 35 driver poinst. 35 owner points and crew chief $75K/3 races. So CC Chad Johnson will miss 3 races starting with the ********* 301 on Sunday.
• Cup driver standings - Part II. Truex is in 1st, 34 points up over Larson. That was quick.
• Other penalties - The Twerp had one loose lugnut causing a CC fine of $10K
• Nascar is increasing penalties for failing inspections. They are taking sets of tires and practice time. Practice time looses are now up to 30 minutes and crew chiefs are losing "hard cards", whatever those are. The details from Jayski's.
• Erik Jones will be taking Matt Kenseth's seat in the #20 at Gibbs. Jones is currently driving the #77 for Furniture Row and the 77 team may fold due to lack of a sponsor.
• Nascar is in "aggressive conversations" with potential new manufacturers to join Nascar. Kia or Honda Racing anyone?
• The 15 race package Fox/FS1 shows has seen a 12% drop in viewers over 2016 which was 14% less than 2015. TV sponsor dollars must be flying away.
• Kentucky TV ratings - 1.9 this year, 2.0 last year and 2.3 for 2015.

Qualifying for the ********* 301 is done;

Larson wins the pole, then Truex, Johnson, Kenseth, McMurray, Kahne, Jones, The Twerp, Hamlin, Busch41, Keso and Elliott rounds out the top 12 qualifiers.

This is not Larson's week. He was hit with a post-qualifying penalty for an unapproved rear deck fin. Spoiler? I passed pre-qualifying inspection.

Truex gets the pole award instead.

They should just eliminate the cuppers from the scoring portion of the X men races. That would allow a better gauge of the true standings of the X men.
