Cup race #10 from Talladega on Sunday and the X-Men will be running on Saturday. From MRN, the event schedule*; degaspring.PNG

The entry list has 42 teams, so for the first time in months non-Charter teams will have to qualify for a starting spot.

Weather for Friday is forecast to be periods of wetness, with Saturday and Sunday as dry and sunny. Cup qualifying this week is on Saturday, so the race and Q'ing should have minimal rain impact.

News and Notes
  • Penalties from Richmond - The biggest is Logano failing R&D inspection and his win is encumbered, so he keeps the win (surprise, surprise), but he gets no playoff points and the team get fines and a crew chief 2 race suspension. Post-race inspection for other teams found a few loose nuts on the lugs, not behind the wheel. ;)
  • Before the Richmond race, Brian France talked about the drop in popularity of Nascar. In the end he said nothing - http://www.espn.com/jayski/cup/2017/...g-attract-fans
  • Alex Bowman seems to the leading candidate to take Dale Jr.'s seat in the 88 next year. Bowman did a pretty good job last year while Jr. was recuperating.
  • Monster and Bellator MMA will have fights at 4 Nascar races this year. The first is at the All-Star race in a couple of weeks. Nascar says they have no relationship with Bellator MMA, so it's all on Monster. What is this sport coming to? I still say Nascar sold it's soul (if they have one) to Monster!
  • Humpy Wheeler, has some ideas to put butts in the seats and make the following picture look better. richcrowd.PNG

  • First Nascar is losing it's stars: Gordon, Smoke, Edwards and now Dale Jr. in two years. Nascar needs real rivalries to create excitement. Second, all the changes to the cars have hurt the sport. Every time a car gets to the front, they run away from the field because the aero packages inhibit poor side by side racing in the pack. Here is the article - http://autoweek.com/article/monster-...=awracingdaily
  • TV ratings - Looking at the grandstands tells that TV ratings were down from last year. A rain delay didn't help.

iFL had a first time winner in 88 & 24 TO THE TOP!. A tip of the cup to ya! slurpee11.png

PS - the 88 and 24 didn't make it to the top.

TB2448 is on top of the overall standings through 7 races.

* After double and triple checking, the schedule and track names are correct this week........................................unless they aren't!

  • Kinda harsh for a few loose lugnuts, unless you're being facetious. If so, then you're reporting is "fake news"...Lol Sounds like you're dissin' on my boy? You're not, are you?:suspicious:

This pretty much sums it up:
"NASCAR has seen crowds shrink at virtually every track, many of which have removed seats, and its television ratings have plummeted. At Richmond, which once routinely seated more than 100,000 fans for races in the premier Cup series, only 60,000 seats remain and they were not close to full for Sunday's 400-lap race."

And they were lucky to fill 30k.........

They said all sports are struggling? Not sure the NFL is, although I don't have any hard numbers......

I added a couple of words to clear up your confusion, Musky. The nuts were for other teams.

Joey didn't have some suspensions parts properly secured - "Truck trailing arm spacer/pinion angle shim mating surfaces must be planar and must be in complete contact with corresponding mating surfaces at all points and at all times." What that really means is a 2 race sit down for the CC, along with loss of points and fines.

The NFL has falling TV ratings, too. I don't know about their attendance. NFL should drop TNF.

Baseball is trying to shorten game times, but I don't think they are serious. Look how long one at bat takes with all the stepping out of the batters box, cleat cleaning and cup adjusting, not to mention the pitcher staring down the batter.

Don't know about NBA or NHL ratings or attendance.

All sports have declining numbers of attendees to the events.

That is the second L1(P1) penalty that Penske has received this year, Brad had one as well, that is a lot of points to loose, I am sure the Captain is not as happy as he could be at this point in time!

The #2 appeal is still going on. Supposed to be done on the 9th and Penske will still lose.

Does failing "post race" mean he failed an inspection of equipment? Like when they would have us tear down our motors and check the heads and weigh our boats? If they are starting to cheat again it might be worth tuning back in to the nascar?

Post race meaning in this case Joey's car and 3 others were confiscated and taken to the R&D Center for tear down and inspection. Race winners, 2nd place and 2 random cars are taken to R&D after each race. So pretty much the same as race boats and drag racers, except Nascar seizes the cars and checks at R&D instead of at the track or lake/river.

Soggy day at Dega. X-Men squeezed in 2 shortened practices between raindrops and Cup got 10 minutes before rain washed everything out.

Saturday's new schedule;

When we went down to the race, ARCA was always going while we passed by and headed to my cousin's. Track is right off interstate 20......

Today you were warmer than down here. Our high was only 55, a couple of notches higher than Dega. We set a Lowest High record today - Wet and chilly, too.

The upcoming weather for Dega is a lot better and not too hot.

Looks like fair forecast, but it will be heating up again. Our average temps are 75/55 - Monday, :D By the end of the month high 80's are the norm. šŸ˜“

A Mini-Big One in the X-Race. Lap 20 and a middle lane car touched the outside car. A lot of spinners and banging, but most kept all 4 on the ground. Probably 10 involved - Or more.

Red flag for clean up.

One lap before the end Heat #2, when Reed got loose and slid in front of Gaughn, triggering another multi-car wreck.

The red flag is getting a workout today.

Almirola wins the X-Race and Sadler came in 2nd. Once again no race win playoff points for an X-Reg. Sad!

Cup qualifying up next - On Fox.
