Nascar Monster Stage 3, Races 7, 8 & 9 - A Roll Of The Dice, Vegas

The third weekend of racing is coming from Las Vegas. Cup and X-Men kick off the festivities with the first Cup practice Friday afternoon, concluding with the post-race inspection sometime early Sunday evening. No Trucks until April 1st. From MRN, the schedule;



No chance of rain or bad weather, only a big bright sun all weekend long.

News & Notes

• For the second race weekend - Only 39 drivers are signed up on the entry list. Is this the result of the subject of this article? Sponsors are drying up.
• Atlanta was/is scheduled for a repave. Was/is because SMI is having seconds thoughts because the drivers are lobbying to hold off on the job.
• SMI can use the repave money to pay Nascar for the second Las Vegas race beginning next year. To make room, New Hampshire and Kentucky are losing. The Fall Cup race at New Hampshire and the Fall X-Men Kentucky race are moving to Vegas. More moving around will mean both Las Vegas races in 2018 will be triple headers, all three series will race.
• A road race in the 2018 playoffs? A possibility! Charlotte has a new infield road course which uses all but a few hundred feet of the oval. One less 1.5 mile track on the schedule is worthy of cheers. These 1.5 mile tracks are the worst racing and often result in runaways for the leader as we saw at Atlanta. I hate to say it, but the segments help slow down the leader. Or a phantom debris caution - just like last Sunday. LOL
• Ford is going for their first 3 race opening sweep since 1992. 29 years ago Ford won the first 3 races of the season.
• Penalties - The Dinger was the the big loser with 3 loose lugnuts. He and his team got the Max - bunch of points, a bunch of fines and 3 race CC suspension. X-Men and Trucks also had a few, namely Shrubby. After winning the X-Race, his car was too low and his win is encumbered. Big Whoop - Shrubby can't run the X-Men playoffs anyway.
• TV ratings - Down slightly from last year. Last year was way down from the year before. All the cable races are killing the ratings and Atlanta was on Fox - It's carrying over. The attendance wasn't great either, a lot of empty seats in the stands.

Get your changes in before the race on Sunday. Next week the league will be cleaned up. Teams with no points after 3 races will be removed.

Keso on the pole, followed by Truex, Blaney, Kenseth, Larson, Logano, Kahne, Jones, Shrubby, McMurray, Suarez and Elliott.

The drivers in bold, along with ADillon and Almirola, are Cuppers, 7 in all, are entered in the X-Race tomorrow. :facepalm:

Had a great time. Took a ton of pix with my long lens. Was actually too long even at the lowest setting, had great seats. UMD won, on to MPLS!
