I'm in northern wisconsin and get some for your money from time to time. Lately iv come across some $2 coins (toonies as I'm told you would call them) and a quick Google serch shows them selling down here for alot sometimes. And I noticed they are all 1996 minted. I guess what I'm asking is how often do you come across them up there? Should I just spend it or hang onto them for the future?

Well a tooney or two dollar coin here is as common as can be. They are worth two Canadian dollars so at the current exchange rate would be $1.50 US.
Not sure how many you have or if you ever plan on buying a coffee up here but if you do they would come in handy.

They are a main-line currency item up here.
Unless there is some kind of minting error or other collectable trait, they are, as stated above, a $2- "coin of the realm" and worth....$2-.
