The first race in the annual Nascar road race series is scheduled for this weekend in California wine country. Cup at Sonoma and Trucks are competing in St. Louis on Saturday, while X-Men have the week off. Often the road races have road course ringers taking over for some of the teams when the team driver can't turn right. This year the ringer is Patrick Carpentier and the regular ringers are missing, like Boris Said and Ron Fellows according to the latest entry list. From MRN - The schedule;

41 names on the entry list, one gets to watch from the grandstand.

This is the last race on the Fox network this year. No Mikey or Darrell Waltrip beginning next week when NBC picks up the remaining races.

Weather - It never rains there and this week is no exception with no rain forecast the next 10 days.

News and Notes
  • Bad news - The #95 Circle-Sport Leavine Family Racing team was hit with a ransomware attack back in April and forked over $500 to recover about $2M in files and 1500 manhours to recover the car set up notes, simulations, etc. Nothing was backed up. The good news - Malwarebytes has signed on as a associate sponsor.
  • FFR needs more sponsors to extend Martin Truex Jr,'s contract. Speculation is Erik Jones will take his seat if no sponsorships are forthcoming.
  • I guess everyone has head about Mike Wallace and daughter getting severly beaten following a Rascal Flats concert.
  • Live with Kelly and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Jeff Gordon. Gordon is supposedly atop the list to replace Strahan. Jeffie - Keep your day job!
  • Nascar is happy with the new downforce package used at Michigan, I guess so! Only 16 teams were warned after failing inspections. Nascar is all all about records and this is a new one!
  • Biffle's team also got hit with a 15 point driver and 15 owner point penalty for failing chassis measurements after the Michigan race. This also included a $50K fine and month long suspension for his crew chief.
  • The Dinger was the designated Lugnut awardee. - Same as before, $20K fine and 1 week suspension for his crew chief.
  • Chase Elliott is running the K&N support race tomorrow to gain some Sonoma road course experience. He has never raced here in any series. His pappy will also function as a second spotter.
  • TV ratings and attendance at Michigan were both down. TV ratings could be understandable following the Orlando massacre, but the ratings indicated the lowest number since the 2000 race.

iboats Fantasy Live

The iFL winner at Michigan was our Cowboy from Florida - AKA FlaCowboy. His first win this year. I'm guessing the rib toss is off target. :D Congrats on the :first:, Cowboy.

We had a change on the top of the overall leaderboard - The new leader is Verticle Pedal. A slim 7 point lead over Trackchick Stars, but a lead is a lead!
Pick your drivers with a chance to complete a road race - My only advice this week. Good luck everyone.

Wallace was beat up pretty bad. I think he will be OK.

Sonoma qualifying is over and the pole winner is Edwards, followed by Allmendinger, Truex, Jr., Busch41, Larson, Hamlin, Logano, Bunny Killer Busch, Menard, Stewart, Patrick and Keselowski.

Cody Ware missed making the field.

Chase Elliott may have made a good choice using the K&n race at Sonoma as a learning experience for tomorrow. He took the pole and with three laps to go, passed the leader to take the win. Elliott saved his tires for the end and it paid off.

After pitting during the caution the leader is Bunny Killer, who was in the pits when the yellow flew. Hamlin, Larson, Biffle and Blaney are behind him.

BK holds the lead on the restart, lap 49. Until Hamlin gets around him and then Larson.

Smoke goes to the lead on the restart and then another yellow, #4, for McDowell stopping just off the track. Only 17 laps left.
