Loved the battleships, was a great sign of fire power. The battleship gives a true meaning of urban renewal when she sends in her 16 inch shells. Some guys where I use to work were called in to investigate the Iowa explosion along with folks at Dahlgren. Have been aboard the mighty Mo in Pearl Harbor.

Spent many years taking care of the fleet

I was a big fan of the lake freighters up in Michigan. My grandpa and I got a kick out of old steamers and so that's what I knew best. Never really knew Navy boats until visiting Virginia a couple times. And now, I'm right with ya' AD: battleships are amazing to me. I've been aboard the USS Wisconsin, and it's one of the most fascinating things ever ... MANY years ago, I got to see one of 'em coming into New York (I think it was the Missouri).

Thanks for posting Harritwo: I enjoy seeing this stuff from the guys who know 'em.

Various LCAC's (Landing Craft, Air Cushion) their mission is to get the marines to the beach. If they return to the ship, great. Life expectancy during time of war is to the beach.)They fly fast for being on the water, Sea State makes a difference in speed though)

Any of you guys on a sub during a breeching maneuver like the one in post #10? I've always been curious what's it's like on board through one of those.

I had no idea how many guys crewed one of the Battleship gun turrets until I was talking with a couple of the guides on the Wisconsin. Amazing how much man power it takes to get the job done ... then again, as the photo shows, it's a lotta' power that's being output too.

Cool photos.
