I have a 97 F 150 truck with a flat 4 wire connector for trailer hook up. The connector is bad and I plan to replace it. My two trailers do not have brakes. What type connector should I install? I have no problem replacing the trailer plugs.

If your not going to add brakes to your trailers then just replace the flat plug

Replace the connector with what you have now. It works for your trailers, so why change?

I agree, if you're not pulling anything with breaks just stick with flat 4 pin. Switching to a circular 7 or the flat 5 pin (similar to your 4 pin, but with a "break override" for surge breaks) would be a decent amount of work for not much gain.
