Bunk Carpet necessary ??

So I sold my Fish n Ski a few months ago and recently bought my 2nd boat. It is a pontoon and one of the bunks on the trailer needs to be replaced. The guy I bought from has replace one the other bunks and did not put bunk carpet on it. After reading several threads, I now know not to use treated lumber because the chemicals may effect the aluminum. Do I need to carpet the bunks on a pontoon trailer or is it ok to put the pontoon boat directly on the wood? Thank you.

The purpose of the carpet is to prevent marring/scratching the hull; or in your case the pontoons. So I guess it depends on whether or not you mind your pontoon logs getting scratched up from rubbing against bare wood.

Wet siliconed carpet is slicker than wood and I agree with the post above me.
