I have a 2006 EZ Loader duel axel , 4 braking surge braking system,
supports a 21 ft boat and trailer tow rating is 4500 lbs

Tow rating on actuator plate is 6500 lbs

Was living with a loud banging upon turns and could not place exactly were it was coming from.
Last time out did not check fluid and after a short distance realised I had no trailer brakes
Checked brake resivior and was bone dry.
Was a mile from home, went back home, put in fluid , still no brakes, figured I had too bleed

In an earlier post fellow boaters on this forum responded that the loud bang could be brake actuator.

On my present actuator I have the ability too hand pump actuator with a screw driver.
Filling brake fluid and pumping brake fluid noticed it was shooting all over trailer rails
Replaced hose, filled and still no brakes.

Here's were it gets interesting
PREVIOUS trailer
Purchased a new Titan model 60
THank god their was no accident but on my way too ocean and after a hour trip I was 1/2 mile too boat ramp.
Stopped at a stop sign infront of a marina, starting too go, my blazer was rocked by a BANG, , checked out,.???
HOLY COW, trailer broke in two, falling too floor, leaving brake actuator attached too ball while front of trailer was on ground.
Marina assisted me getting boat out of street, back too yard,
Made arrangements too leave at their stacking system until I locate another trailer
Junking trailer
I pulled off the new Titan brake actuator ( was a month old _)
Leaving in my garage few years

Having banging noise, no brakes, and an extra brake actuator decided too replace

Good News
NO more banging,
Still no brakes.
On this actuator no opening too pump
According too info on line my type is older model
Presently they make same model but they have the ability too hand pump actuator

Bleeding I have too make a loop with chains,
Using a 2/4 move trailer coupler assembly back and forth and bleed system

Front assembly does not seem too move
Remains in same position

Don't know what is normal for this assembly

Is it supposed too move back and forth, or up and down ? with pressure from a 2/4 ?

Thinking could there been damage caused by trailer breaking off locking assembly ?

4 wheel braking did I need the larger actuator that I took off?

Hopefully my description is not confusing

HAPPY BOATING

Re: Question regarding Titan brake actuator

Brake actuators must move fluid through the system. If the actuator does not have sufficient displacement it can't properly operate the brakes. Examine the coupler to see how it works. Obviously it needs impart a pushing force on the madter cylinder regardless how it is engineered. A brake system left empty is prone to rust and scale. You may have multiple problems.

Re: Question regarding Titan brake actuator

First thing I would do is to take the brake line off the master cylinder and see if you can pump any fluid out while pushing on the actuator. If you can do that, then bleed all the brakes.

Your wheel cylinders may also be frozen up.

Re: Question regarding Titan brake actuator

The Titan 60 has (IMHO) a bad design in that the brake fluid cap sits flush on the actuator, it is vented also. The master cylinder is cast iron. If your cap is not on tight or if you are unaware that the cap is vented you may well be getting water in the master cylinder, especially when rinsing of the boat and trailer after use. My whole brake system was ruined due to water in the master, thus the brake lines then the calipers. The front of the actuator has to move in order to put pressure on the brake system.

Trying too figure out if my surge brake actuator is working?

Trying too figure out if my surge brake actuator is working?

I had issues with my actuator.
Was over 7 years old and decided too replace.
I had a spare TItan model # 60 that was sitting outside covered 4 years. WHen I received it was only used a few
months.

I want too bleed brakes and too find out if Titan is working ?
I took some advice from this site on a home made bleeder.
I had extra ace garden pump.
Had fittings that fit threds in brake fluid resevior, hooked up line.
Working fine, pumping strong.
Bleeding on this titan is difficult especially one man

I took brake line off fitting at resevior
Resevoir it is filling with brake fluid and pump is getting hard but fluid is not pushing thru
fitting.
If unit is working as it shouldn't it pump fluids under pressure ?

Before I move forward I just want too make sure Titan is working,
If I am missing something let me know
thanks

Re: Trying too figure out if my surge brake actuator is working?

the master works by sucking oil from the resevoir into the piston chamber then when you push the hitch the oil is pushed down the line. with out the line you may only get a little oil out of the fitting as there no vacum to get the oil from the resevoir into the piston.

Any reason why you started a new thread on this?

Please add to your first thread by replying. Two threads on the same problem are confusing and violate Rule #11

11. Please do not post multiple threads in multiple forums about a single problem. This is confusing to those trying to help you. Multiple threads in the same forum about the same issue are also confusing. If you want help fast, one thread in the most closely related forum is the best way to get it.

I merged the two threads together so all the information is in one thread.
