I dropped the boat so I could work on the trailer as part of my boat project. There are some rust issues. Overall it's not too bad but there are some bad spots, mostly surface rust. I want to clean it up, rewire, new lights and paint etc. I'm looking for advice, pointers and other people's experiences with their own boat trailers. Here are some photos.

Re: 1985 Spartan roller traile, refurbish Rust

I have a Spartan that is very simular to yours. The rust you have doesn't look bad at all.

What I have used on a couple trailers that has worked well in a 4" angle grinder with a flapper disk in a finer grit. Too course of a grit will get very aggressive and leave gringer marks. As to painting, if you don't have a paint sprayer then what I've found works best is caned paint with a fine sponge 4" roller. Rustolium works very well and rolls out very flat with a sponge roller.

Strip as much hardware off as possible and have at it!
