I have imported a 1995 Spartan trailer into Canada, and am pretty confident that it will fail the inspection. The manufacturers plate is completely worn and cannot be read. Therefore, the serial # and manufactur date, as well as weight and tire size cannot be confirmed. How do I go about getting a new manufacturers plate from a company that doesn't exist. Where would the records be kept or are they kept.

Got a good deal on the boat, but now a new trailer is going to break me.:(

I believe you have to take it your local DMV or Highway Patrol...some sort vehicle safety/registration officials within your state/providence. They will inspect the trailer based on it's construction, type and size of materials used, axle, wheels, tires and so forth and decide it's capacity and specifications and issue a new registration number for that trailer.

Now, this is how it works in some of the states in the U.S., hopefully it will work the same in Canada.

Thanks for the reply.

Finally got a straight answer from the RIV. I will have to get it inspected and get a new VIN.

Looks like all will end well.

Gord:)
