Trailer requires a ST185 80 13" C

All I can find is ST175 80 13" C

Seems like less than 1/2" narrower and about 2/3" shorter..

Could these work for me?

Probably not but depends on your load. You are going to be losing many pounds capacity per tire if you go that size

Re: Hard to Find Tire Size - Substitute?

The ST175 80 13 C has a load rating of 1360 lbs per tire at 50 psi. The 185 is listed as 1480lbs at 50 psi. So there is a loss of 120 lbs carrying capacity per tire, or 240 lbs per axle.

What is the boat, gear and trailer weight? How many axles?

Re: Hard to Find Tire Size - Substitute?

Kinda need 'em tomorrow so ordering online is out for me.

It's a 17' VIP bowrider with a 115 Johnson on it. According to NADA the boat weighs in at 1440 and the motor ('82 Johnnie 115) at 300.

total of 1740
say 400 fuel batteries gear maybe?
Add the trailer about 500

2550 lbs

ST175 80R13 tires rated at 2720 for the pair on a single axle... close.. am I pushing it too much? I'll get the radial ST since they seem to hold up better heat wise and keep a spare.

I would try a little harder finding the larger tires.

 oops...

I have a trip to make on Friday so I'm kinda in a bind. I'll see what I can do.. realize I'm up near the limits of the ratings but not going over.

At 1360 per tire or 2720 per axle, you are close. Plus most manufacturers make their tires higher than the minimum rating, so you will see differences of about 20 lbs or so between the same size between models and manufacturers.

Either way, if you can afford to upgrade to a 14" and have the fender clearance, think about that.

Re: Hard to Find Tire Size - Substitute?

Well the 10th dealer I called can get me some Marathon's of the right size..

now I need to get the boat and trailer up on blocks or jack stands to pull the rims and bring them to him. Doesn't have the facility to get truck and trailer in.. oh well. At least I'll have the right tires and peace of mind on the road.

Pretty sure that this is as big a tire as I can get on the trailer and going back to the 185's I get back that 240 lbs of capacity headroom.

Now to find a cover that fits my boat.
