Powerwinch 712A Rebuild

Hello,

I have a powerwinch 712A, and I am having trouble with the winch holding under tension. When I back the trailer with the boat down the ramp, the winch does not hold and the boat begins to roll off the trailer (until the safety chain loses slack).

The winch was on the trailer from the dealer and pulls the boat up on fine. The boat is a Glastron GS249 on a 5-star Roller trailer.

I can buy a new rebuilt winch from powerwinch for $249 shipped, or I could look for someone who can rebuild the unit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Did anyone else experience this problem? I am guessing that a clutch kit and some new gears would do the trick?

well seeing that it will slip on the ramp, wonder what it would do in a sudden stop situation. definately fix or replace it.
