Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I just bought the boat yesterday, but I'll be pulling my '85 Baja 170 with an '06 Ford Escape XLT 4x4. Seemed ok for the 8 minute trip from where I bought it to my driveway. Quite a bit of rattle and bang coming from the hitch though. I notice this with my garden trailer too and that's the only trailering I've ever done. Is that normal?

Check the fit of the tow bar into the receiver. Our escape did this as well, I think the receiver is just a tiny bit to large. We took a bike innertube and cut a part and put it around the to bar, it shimmed it enough to not rattle.

I pull my 1980 vintage 15' kingfisher around on the bumper of my 1998 vintage explorer sport 2wd v6 sohc. Seems a pretty good match.

Well soon as i can pull it to the water :) I'll be hitching it up to my '07 Trailblazer SS for the time being. Currently working on the purchase of a 2000 Manual 4.0L Jeep Sahara, which will take over that job.

Well i bought the jeep!!! First Jeep and i'm thrilled. Gotta put a hitch on it. this will pull my boat most times...

pulling my 1982 Imperial V-183 around with my 2002 Dodge Dakota QuadCab 4.7 manual 4x4 with factory tow package. No issues at all, and the 4wd comes in handy on the slippery ramps

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Well there seems to be alot of Dodge tow vehicles on the forum.
When we had a 18' Glastron pulled it with the 2004 Hemi Durango, then upgraded to a 24' Maxum and just last week found a STEAL on a 2002 Ram 3500 4X4 V10 w/5 speed therefore the Hemi Durango is officially nothing more than the grocery getter.

Here's the Beast and the Maxum.

'96 GMC K2500 Suburban. 454, 4.10s, full conversion interior (4 Flexsteel buckets w/lumbar, wood trim, center console w/tv, rear mood lighting, exterior flares/running boards). Sold my '98 K1500 w/full conversion pkg for $6K, bought the K2500 for $3500! Pulls the 26' Wellcraft Nova II quite well. Pulled it from Detroit to Colorado Springs last Spring.

We use a well running 1998 Chev K1500. No special add ons used. Tows good for the trips we make. Of course I do all of my own work so we keep up on problems. We tow a 1985 20' JC pontoon on a 2000 20' Landau Behr trailer.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I have two boats, a '66 15' lonestar w/ 75hp johny and a '70 18' starcraft i/o. Both are fiberglass. believe it or not I pull both ( not at the same time of course) with a '90 Buick Century w/3.3 v-6. pulls the just fine. I do this cause my '98 Jimmy does Not have a reciever on it. And my '70 Chevy p/up needs a different tranny w/ lower 1st gear

From home to the lake house, I pull my 1988 17' Maxum with a 2008 Chevy Silverado v-8 2wd (company truck), its about 120 miles, but when there (only about 1 mile from house to marina) I pull the boat with my 2005 Volvo XC 70 awd, 5 cyl turbo :) - it actually pulls it real well. Rated for 3500 pounds and boat with motor and gear comes in under 2500.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

My father-in-law and I have a 1985 Wellcraft 190 American and tow it with my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500. If I wasn't paying constant attention to her (because I am new to both towing and boating and scared of making an expensive mistake), I wouldn't even know she was there.

We've only taken her out once so far, so I'm excited to get some pictures of the whole rig this summer.
