Im going to be painting my trailer
I was going to use rustoleum rusty metal primer
But the website says not to use it on galvanized metal
My trailer has a mixed batch of clean metal, rusty metal and galvanized metal
I already went over it with a wirebrush and grindef a few areas to remove most of the rust
I have read that I could wash the galvanized with
Ammonia or viniger then the paint would stick
Should I use a rust netralizer first?
What should I prime it with?

Ayuh,.... It's best to look at paint, as a System, 'n stick to the same, from start to finish,....

What I'd do is,....
I'd cover the galvanized areas with Rustoleum etching primer, then the whole thing with the Rustoleum red metal primer,....
After that, paint everything with Rustoleum industrial enamel, with hardener added,......

Yes lather on the vinager. Galvanized metal forms a outer oxidized layer like aluminum that needs an etch. Nothing like rustoleum on a trailer.

Rustoleum makes a latex primer for aluminum and galvanized metal
Has anyone used this stuff?

Yea i was a little weary of that to
But according to the website thats what i should use
Its made for corroded aluminum and glavanized metal
Apperantly the alkalyd in oil based paint reacts with the galvanized coating and it peels off

Guys, anyone spend any time playing with "rust converter"? I've seen it mentioned here and there, and it's now available from several manfs. including Rustoleum. I'd be tempted to give it a try on something like a trailer, but that might be because I don't know any better. I have used it with some success on some smaller projects, but nothing of any consequence and no long term results to really base an opinion on.

I used Rustoleum RustConverter and it was great! It served as primer, too, and it has held up well.

Gee, why not spray the problem areas on the trailer with cold galvanizing zinc paint? I have used it on all my galvanized trailers, and it works real well.

You will want to wire brush off all loose rust first.
