I'm considering buying a 14' Elete pontoon with a Torqeedo electric motor (4 batteries). Is my Volvo V70 (5 cylinder) up to the task of towing it?

Welcome aboard!:welcome:

What does Volvo have to say on the subject? The total weight of your rig is likely pretty modest, but you need to know what it is, and compare that to the towing capacity in your owner's manual.

Pulling a pontoon is kinda like pulling a parachute. Not a lot of weight, but a bunch of drag. If you're talking about a short hop to get to a local marina or boat landing, I'd say go for it. Longer runs maybe not so much...

Volvo V70 towing capacity is listed at 3300

the 14' pontoon dry weight is about 1400# (Estimating because not much data on the Elete brand so I used a Tahoe)
the torqueedo 10R is 133#
the 4 batteries (assuming group 27) is #260
misc gear #400
trailer #1000

simple math says no unless you weigh less than #100

I personally would want a bigger vehicle.
