Happy Sunday!

I have a 2002 Ford Excursion tow hitch setup that has a factory flat 4 pin connector (as well as a round connector that I've never used). Well I just bought a trailer that has surge brakes as well as a 5 pin connector. I'm reading online that if you retrofit the vehicle to 5 pin, the surge brakes *should* allow for backing up w/o locking up. Can anyone point me to how to this retrofit should be done?

Just get the plug in adapter that converts your 7 pin to 5. Cost about $15 anywhere.

Just install a 5 pin connector to you existing 4 wire harness and run a wire from the 5th terminal to the back up light circuit. Not really required for surge drum brakes as they don't really apply well in reverse, but really needed with disc brakes.
