I am starting to restore my 1989 EZ Loader roller trailer, so I wanted to see if the axles are ok. I pulled the wheels and bearings and saw some wear on what I believe to be the spindle sleeve. It is the polished area near the square mounting (brake flange ?). I have a few questions about it.
Is it called a spindle sleeve or bearing race?
Is it removable?
If it is removable, how?
Is the ones in the attache'd photos worn.
Note: There is a slight lip in the surface to edge

Are both sides the same? Did the rollers fall out when you took the wheel off? It looks like what's left of the inner bearing has seized on the spindle.

Is it removable? Sometimes.

It may be best to get a new axle and seeing how rusted the springs are, some new springs.

So that is the only one that appears worn. All 4 spindles (tandem trailer) has sleeve. Based on this is do not think that the bearing destruct ed and attached to the spindels. I did not check the inner bearing closely, but nothing fell out or was in the grease. I'll recheck next time I am up there.

I am planning on restoring the trailer ( brakes, Springs, some wobble rollers, bearings hubs etc, )just checking if I need new axles or not.

Thanks GA...

I took a die grinder with a sanding disc and ground it down to the axle.
Obviously once you get to the axle you need to stop.
Once you do this you can peel it off.
Mine was put on with loctite.
It was pretty simple to do.

Idlespeedonly, thank you . When I spoke to my son, ( auto mechanic ) he told me it looked like a bearing race ( on a car , anyway ) and also also too an angle grinder, but with with a cut off blade. He would cut it and then then a cold chisel pop it off. Sounds like a similar technique. Next time there, I'll measure , order, cut and install. I'll post the results.

Thanks all who responded.

They are only about .030-.035 thick.
It doesnt take much effort to get them off.
