I recently acquired a 3 axle boat trailer with mobile home axles. It is a very well built trailer.
Can I replace the hubs and convert these to a regular 6 lug hub , or 8 ?
And obviously new tires and wheels.
Can I convert to disc brakes?
Should I convert to disc brakes?
I would also like electric hydraulic so I have brakes while backing down a steep boat ramp.
Boat is about 10,000 lbs. Trailer 1,800 lbs.
Or should I just buy a new trailer?

I would price out 3 new axles spec'd with what you want / need. Add new tires, break system and any other options you need / want.

Then compare that to what a trailer that fits your needs would cost.

I'd pull a hub and verify that it has actual bearings instead of one time use bushings and then I'd run it as is... nothing at all wrong with dayton wheels and 14.5 tires.... they aren't ONLY used on mobile homes BTW.

That said, the only way to know if you can convert is to pull a hub... there were soooo many different axles made for mobile homes... you will need to see what your spindles are and then look for hubs that fit them...

If this scares you then maybe you should consider taking the hub or the whole trailer to a trailer shop and have them check it out.
