do some trailers not have axels

this is a trailer for a 22' boat.

1.I can't see a axel in this image is it possiable that
the hubs are attached to the frame?
2.will the rollers eventualley make dents in a 22' aluimin boat?

3.if the rollers where swapped for bunks how much less would the trailer weight? what is the weight of this trailer?

4.is it illegal for the trailer to not have fenders?

5.can I tempuarlley use the license plate off my 15' trailer?

Thanks TB

1) looks like the front wheel on the left has a torsion arm coming out of the front tube. That would be an axle.
4) depends on your state laws

5) no, that would be illegal

There is a suspension system that doesn't have axles, I don't remember the name. My guess is it's the angle of the picture that's keeping you from seeing the axles.
That trailer needs fenders to be legal and to protect the boat from rocks. Legally you shouldn't use the plate from another trailer but that doesn't mean it isn't being done. I don't like rollers for an aluminum boat my boat has dents from them.

All trailers that have wheels have axles but they are not always a beam from one side to the other.

If a roller trailer dents a boat it's because it doesn't have enough rollers

Temporarily using a tag from a trailer you have sold and then transferring to the new trailer is legal in some states but it's never legal to swap back and forth between trailers.

Bunks are not necessarily lighter than rollers... Could even be heavier.

Most states require fenders tho if the boat is over the tire that may be legal in some states tho anything thrown by the tire would hit the boat.

I have to agree with Ick's thinking as well. There has to be a hidden axle there. Otherwise how would the wheel/tire/hub support the huge torque that would be applied to the junction of the spindle to spring attachment :noidea: And yes fenders are not for prettiness but to save your hull from damage. Bunks spread the surface support over a lot larger area and I like bunks over rollers as my personal opinion. I won't even make a statement about swapping license plates...

Never run a trailer without fenders. If you do, you will be doing some body work on your boat in the near future. Driving down the Highway kicks up more sand and dust than you think and it is like sandblasting the bottom of your boat.

I agree with ondarvr, there are 3 shadows between the tires, there is an axle hiding in there

That is an Escort Trailer. It DOES have an axle. The rectangular frame in the rear is a removable/adjustable assembly.
It had fenders when it was built. I have one that I have converted to a utility trailer. And BTW the company once located in Oklahoma is no longer. Bayliner Boats used them for years, then Brunswick bought them as they were dying. The trailer is a solid unit and there are NO specific parts on it. Everything you need to keep it up is available from other trailer parts outfits and/or your local hardware store. If you would like I can take and post a picture of the fender assembly so you can fabricate replacements. I can also take pictures of the axle assembly if you like as you can still see most of it on my trailer.

I will not comment on the legality issues but agree with some that you MUST have fenders to prevent damage and injury to yourself and others - not to mention your boat.

I have a 22' aluminum boat and a roller trailer (magliner) it is a 1983, the boat has set on that trailer for 32 years and has no dents. Need to have enough rollers to support the weight and have the rollers in the proper support areas.

Depending on the state, that can actually be fully legal. Here in ND, we can buy a small 1 year plate/tag for a boat trailer, and they don't even bother asking what it is going on when you buy it. You are free to move it to any trailer. Also, ND doesn't actually require plates on small trailers, so the only reason people get them is when they take a trailer across state lines to a state that does require them. (Minnesota in particular will stop ND vehicles without plates or their perm registration sticker on the tongue.)
