I have a 1989 yamaha waverunner, turns over but no spark. There is no lanyard plug in located on the steering, but the wires are still there. There is a black and white hook up under the hood. What could it be? The battery is strong, how can i test to see if there is spark, i pluged in the spark plug to the spark cap and put it on the motor and turned it over, nothing. I took a wire brush and pealed away some paint to get metal to metal contact, still nothing. I got this thing for $100, the guy said it ran...4 years ago. So basicly my questions here is. 1. Can i bypass the lanyard and still turn off the machine if it does run. 2. How can i get spark. I will get pictures soon.

Pictures would be appreciated, and even a service manual. Thanks.

Re: 1989 yamaha waverunner HELP!

The lanyard actually goes underneath the STOP button.

You can disconnect the black and white harness, just keep in mind you will have to connect it to stop the motor.

Edit: Some style start/stops do not let you crank the motor at all without the lanyard in
Some, like yours, just stop the spark.
