another frozen steering cable thread...

I was ready to take it out for the fist time tomorrow and found the steering cable was frozen (when i went to connect it).

I cannot free up the cable (at least not yet) so will most likely have to purchase another. My question is has anyone had any trouble sourcing the correct part number for a 93 jazz? I have found this thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=320069 but also came across this one http://www.baylinerownersclub.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40402 and am a little concerned.

I too believe I have a 4300bc control cable as my steering cable. It looks very similar to this on both ends: http://www.seattlemarine.net/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=15008&idcategory=0

This does not appear to be the same cable that the part numbers in the first thread support. I do have an older Jazz (with the ring electrical connectors), and my steering tower is just a sheet of plate aluminum.

I have been unable to locate any part numbers on my existing cable.
Has anyone ever had any experience with this? Does the ride plate have to be pulled to change out the cable?

I am half tempted to take it to the marina to avoid the frustration of ordering and returning multiple cables until i get the right one.

Any advise/information/snide remarks are greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it is the cable and not the nozzle pivot that is stuck ? these cables usually do not lock up .

i believe so
I've disconnected the cable at both ends and the nozzle moves freely
i actually just installed the nozzle and thats when i noticed the frozen cable

ive used about 1/2 a can of wd40 and worked it left and right hoping to break it free, but still not luck

yeah it's def stuck. I managed to get it to twist in the sheath, but can only get about half the travel i need front to back (and that's using a mallet)

i just pulled it and there are no part numbers on it

this is the steering tower end:

this is the nozzle end:

anyone know if this is a steering cable or a sort of control cable?
it isnt even labeled teleflex that i can see

Since you have it out , measure the length of the cable (end of threads to end of threads ) and I can get you a merc part number and maybe an aftermarket option

Thanks Ken, Good call on measuring the cable. It's 9' end to end.
I just got home from West Marine, where I took in the cable to see if they could make a visual match. It is indeed a teleflex 4300bc control cable, 9ft in length. They looked it up and, of course, it's discontinued without any replacement.

I asked the guy to search the network and he found the last one in West Marine's entire national inventory. They are shipping it in from a store out of state, and only charging me $65 since it's "obsolete product". I think I lucked out on this one :D

If any one else out there has one of these, or ever has the need, I also found that http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/ makes custom cables at about the cost of ordering a brand new steering cable.
