Is it Possible for the charging sysstem to only charge a TINY bit.

My 98 1200 has been flawless until this year. My battery continues to go dead. My NEW battery goes dead quickly and will not charge back up. After a 1 hour ski it will barely turn on the audible "low battery " warning horn.
Also how long should it take to charge a battery cruising high power?

What is the first thing to check? and the second?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check your rectifier and your battery ground wire to the engine

i agree with jeff. the stator is both the aternator and your distributor ( simple terms) one side charges the other does the work the distributor does in a car. ( to oversimplify it)
check to see if the rectifier is bad
