Hi All,

I've been reading these forums for a while, but just signed up..

I recently bought a 1989 Maxum 2000SC with a MerCruiser 3.0 litre. Engine runs great, although I know the propeller is not right.

There are no markings on the prop, and it is a bit chewed up. I am aiming for 4600-4700 RPM at WOT. I am currently at 5400RPM, and I know that's way too high.

Anybody with experience with Props/ this specific boat/motor, please chime in. I really want to buy a prop that wont fry my engine, but still keeps me going relatively fast.

Thanks in advance.

Brian, There are lots of props that fit your motor, from lots of manufacturers. I would look up your boat motor combo in a prop selector (most prop manufacturers have such a tool) to get an idea of the pitch necessary. At this point you could buy or borrow a prop to test.

Alternatively, a prop shop may be able to measure your existing prop. You probably want to add about 4" of pitch to your current prop.

Look for numbers under the prop nut. What is the gps speed at 5400?How is the hole shot?
Older tachs are always suspect until proven.
