Hi Guys,

I have an old 11-spline Prop from a mercury 350 (1963) and according to the exploded view accepts:

Backing washer, Thrust washer, splined washer, nut. I'm assuming the prop will go right after the thrust washer, followed by the splined washer and nut but why where is the tab washer and which one?

are the tab washers associated with the propeller which is why i can't see it in the parts list? Thanks.

Not used in this model. The order is thrust washer, prop, splined washer and then the prop nut to hold it all together.

Is there not a backing washer?
Looks like it depends on what your engine serial number was and what parts diagram you're looking at. The first two serial numbers show a backing washer while the third one doesn't. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec...sp?doc_nbr=350 Look under GEAR HOUSING ASSEMBLY, COMPLETE (PAGE 2).

Part number 38859A1 is called a thrust hub and washer assembly.

Part number 12-25251, item # 67 is a backing washer, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...E+%28PAGE+2%29

Back in the -50's and for some time, the engines had a thrust washer, prop, locking washer and conical shaped prop nut/cone. The cone had slots cut in it to accept the tangs of the lock washer. This was "pre thru hub" days. With the advent of the thru hub system the locking washer locked into the splined hub shown by radio control above and was just under the nut which also had a locking nylon insert.....2 methods to ensure your prop stayed on the shaft. Had to be real careful in installing the nut to ensure it fit the hex detent in the 6 toothed SS locking washer.....only requiring 3 tangs to be bent at a time.....the other 3 have no slots and 3 is enough.

Where can I find this washer? The sequence i used as mentioned above was, "backing washer, thrust washer, propeller, splined washer, nut. there has to be some reason for the knobs on the splined washer.

Your motor does not use the tabbed washer just like my 11 spliner.

I haven't torn the prop off in a while, but my parts are exactly like and in the same sequence in the diagrams Fun Times linked earlier. Parts 67-71.
