I'm getting a 16 ft Carolina skiff and was wondering if I should get a prop with a different pitch. Right now I have a 2002 50 hp mercury 2 stroke on a 15 ft run about. prop is 10.63 x 12

Re: 50 hp Mercury prop Question

Before venturing into wild guessing selecting other pitch from the one Factory delivered, you must go for a wot spin as normally loaded and check max achieved rpm on that boat with 50 HP engine to know if under or over propped. Then can select the best prop pitch to optimize boat engine performance. If it's not a center console with tach, you could install an induction tach to test. Get wot rpm Factory parameters stated for that engine to know if inside them.

Happy Boating

Do a lightly loaded wot test run.Remind us of the prop size and get us the wot rpm and gps speed.
The 12" should be a good starting point.
