Hi, i just bought my first boat about a month and a half ago. It came with a 60HP Mercury Bigfoot, but it seems it doesn't matter whether i have 2 people or 5 people on the boat, i can only go about 30 mph. I'm wondering if i changed the prop if i could get a little more speed out of it, and if so what prop, as i have no idea what i would potentially need. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and the boat is a 16 foot Crestliner super hawk and I'm getting 6000-6200 rpm at that speed.Thanks.

Is that a 4 stroke big foot? It's possible the speedo is not accurate a only consistantly accurate way to measure speed
is a gps. Some cells have a gps app.We need to know your prop size as well.Usually near the base of the blades or under the prop nut.
At 6200 I wonder if the rev limiter is cutting in.

Thanks for the response. Yes it is a 4 stroke. I will have to check my prop size after work.

A 11' prop is about the size you would put on a pontoon boat.
I think the rev limiter is probably keeping the motor at 6200.Thats good giving the motor a break.
I think the limiter is keeping us from knowing your actual rpm lightly loaded.
A 13" should lower the rpm 300-400 rpm Speed will still be about 32/33 mph
but your rpm will be more reasonable.
