I am looking to get a little better performance out of my 1988 SF150SX. I currently run a 1988 Yamaha pro v 150 with quicksilver 23p prop. Prop shaft to pad is 2". i use a 6" jack plate as well. My hole shot is not bad but could always be better but i have trouble carrying the bow at speed. i max out right now at 52mph @ 5300 rpm. 15 gallons of gas 2 people and light fishing load. After that i can gain RPM by triming up a touch but i gain no speed or bow lift. Could this be a motor height issue or a prop issue. Any help getting this boat set up would be appreciated.

Do have an issue with your boat hopping or porpoising at full throttle? What do mean when you 2" from prop shaft to pad? 2" below pad?

It sounds like you have it a little to high. If that Quicksilver prop is the equivalent of a Mercury Laser 2 I know it's going to loose lift at 2" below the pad. Drop it to 3.5" below and test it out. If you're lift improves raise it 1/4" till you start losing lift and speed then drop it back down 1/4".

I have the same problem but I'm porpoising at around 1/4 trim
